Hi Friends of Haiti, This is just a note for people who go to Haiti, especially as UMVIM teams. (United Methodist Volunteers in Mission) Rev. Gestner Paul has been installed as president of the Methodist Church d' Haiti. The prices at the Methodist Guest House (MGH) have been reduced to $40 per day for room and board. No word yet on any change in the policy that demands we stay there if in the area.
The best news is this: The UM Church together with Pure Water for the World have begun a program of providing biosand water filters. The filters will be produced in Haiti. These filters can provide pure water for 75 people each. The program will provide enough filters to support all of the Methodist schools in the Jerremie area at first later it will expand to all Methodist schools in Haiti, about 105 of them. The program includes not only training for maintainence of the filters, but, also hygiene education. This means when complete, we will be providing pure water, hygiene educ., hot lunch and schools in 105 schools in Haiti. What a joy to be part of this
